Mararison Island was a 55 hectare island until a devastating typhoon in 2013 drastically reduced its land area facing the southern side by at least ten (10) hectares and in the process destroyed many structures, mainly residential houses and also the island's primary school.  Typhoon Yolanda altered the physical and aesthetic characteristics of the affected area and substantially, but positively, changed the environmental integrity of the whole island. It eventually led to the introduction and rise of the island’s tourism industry, bringing with it better income opportunities for the islanders and for the visitors, many ecotourism activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, helmet diving, island boat tour, swimming, trekking, and camping.  Accommodation and meals are reasonably priced. Refreshments can be bought from a handful of sari sari or convenience stores on the island. At the present time, electric power is only available from 1700H to 2200H. For those who still do business while on holiday, Globe 4G internet service is available and is very reliable.  Getting in and out of the island by boat is possible between 7am and 4pm, Mondays to Sundays, except when the seas are really rough. The fare is P150.00/person, or P750.00 per boat (Maximum of 5 pax). Travel time is from 15-45 minutes depending on sea conditions.
